I mentioned in my last episode of WEAR ALL THE LIPSTICK that I tend to get on a kick with a certain color family for a week or so at a time. Well it was all lies! Muahaha!
Milani Red Label with L’Oreal Lip Pencil in Scarlett Glamour

Wear Time: 4 hours of great wear before it started to feel a bit dry. At five hours it needed a re-application.
Scent: Watermelon
Comfort: Very comfortable. Not drying.
Availability: Red Label is available at CVS and is part of Milani’s permanent line of lipstick. This particular shade of lip liner is discontinued.
I really like this shade of red. I wore this on the 4th and the lipstick doesn’t transfer too terribly onto glasses BUT…it will transfer from the glass onto EVERYTHING. So be warned. Because of the high maintenance nature of this particular lipstick, I think that there are other options that are at the same price point and comfort level but don’t require so much attention.
NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige

Wear Time: 15-20 minutes.
Scent: Cherry cough syrup.
Comfort: Very. This is a slick, thin lip gloss so it isn’t sticky.
Availability: Anywhere you can buy NYX this should be available.
This is an OK lip gloss. I don’t reach for it very often because it’s not particularly unique or long wearing, but it’s nice. I don’t think I would buy any other lip glosses from this particular line.
MAC Chili

Wear Time: About 2 hours then it starts fading and I definitely need a reapplication after two and a half/three hours.
Scent: Vanilla
Comfort: This is a matte formula but I find it pretty comfortable. It isn’t particularly drying but I do want something moisturizing by mid afternoon. I also find that I want to re-apply this for comfort reasons long before i need to re-apply for appearance reasons.
Availability: Any MAC counter or the MAC website.
I LOVE this particular shade. It’s a little unusual and it’s just gorgeous.
L’Oreal Colour Riche Caress Lipstick in Cotton Pink
Wear Time: Around 10 minutes
Scent: Light cotton candy scent
Comfort: A tad greasy feeling but SO DRYING. There is something in this lipstick that is really irritating to my skin. I have pretty sensitive lips and this was a wreck. I have a ton of different shades from this line and I don’t remember having trouble with them in the past but I’m throwing at least this particular shade away.
Availability: This line is discontinued.
Look for this in an upcoming de-clutter post! Woo hoo!
Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Fig

Wear Time: I wore this the day following the L’Oreal lipstick so my lips were quite dry to begin with. For me, that definitely reduces the longevity of a lip product. With dry lips I got about an hour of wear before I needed to reapply.
Scent: Smells a little of lemon toilet bowl cleaner
Comfort: OK. It isn’t moisturizing but at least it isn’t drying? I’m a little “meh” about this one.
Availability: I purchased this from Sephora.
I have a couple little mini tubes of Bite’s lipstick and they’re ok. I don’t think I would ever purchase a full size though. They tend to wear off a little ungracefully. To be fair, I haven’t really worn them often so I can’t give a comprehensive review.
Maybelline Rebel Bloom Peach Poppy with Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Liner in Streak
Maybelline Peach Poppy:
Wear Time: 20-30 minutes
Scent: Playdough
Comfort: Feels waxy and clings to dry patches more than any other lip product I’ve ever worn in my life. It gets streakier the longer I wear it.
Availability: I thought that the Rebel Bloom collection was limited edition but it looks like it may actually be permanent although I’m not completely sure.
I HATE this lipstick. It looks gross, it feels gross, it’s a terrible shade choice for me, it’s just…gross man. I keep thinking that maybe I should hang on to it to find a way to make it work but that’s insane. I have so many gorgeous lipstick shades, I don’t need this one. It’s getting me all worked up, I’m actually upset that I own this.
Urban Decay Streak:
Wear Time: If I wear this with lip balm over the top I get 3-4 solid hours of wear time.
Scent: None
Comfort: During application this just glides on, it’s really creamy and lovely and then it dries down to the tacky finish that makes your lipstick last longer. If I don’t put a balm or lipstick on top it does feel kind of sticky and weird. It isn’t drying and as long as I wear a balm over it it’s really comfortable. I mention the balm business because I hated how gross the Maybelline lipstick looked so I wore Streak with Bite Agave Lip Mask for the rest of the day. It was delightful.
Availability: I purchased mine from Sephora but you can also purchase directly from the Urban Decay website.
I really enjoy all of the Urban Decay Lip Pencils that I own (that sounds like I have a lot but I don’t, I think I have three?). I love that they don’t tug at my lips when I’m applying them. Streak is gorgeous. It’s my perfect coral color and it has just a hint of really fine shimmer or frost that makes it gorgeous even without a lipstick. I would recommend this particular shade for sure.
Kiss My Sass Island Cocktails Sheer Lip Glaze
Wear Time: About an hour
Scent: Smells a little like Juicy Fruit or some other fruit flavored gum from my childhood.
Comfort: This is my lip shade for today (yay new stuff!) so I don’t know yet how this will affect my lips after wearing it all day. So far so good. It has a thick gooey texture in the sample tub but it sort of melts into my lips a little upon application. It feels thick and pillowey (screw you spell check, pillowey is totally a word! Ok, maybe not. But I’m not sure how else to describe this) when I’m wearing it but there isn’t any tacky stickiness to it. It’s an interesting texture but I’m digging it!
Availability: This will be available again in August 2015 from the Kiss My Sass website.
Bonus!! Maybelline Purple Royale
This gloss was part of a limited edition fall or Halloween collection quite a while back and I was inexplicably seized with the need to own a dark blue lip gloss. I have no idea why. It’s not a shade that I am comfortable wearing to work so it just sat in my bin of lip gloss for way too long SO I decided that I would start wearing this at home (particularly on nights when The Boy works and I want to wander around my house like a spooky ghoul of makeup hoarding) and see if I can’t actually use the tube up. That was a very long sentence. English is hard.
The crazy thing is that if this didn’t apply so insanely patchy, I might wear it out and about, but it pools and streaks and settles into lip lines and migrates all over my lips and it almost never looks good so there you have it. I’ll report back on the progress of using this baby up.
What lipstick have you been wearing lately? Any fun new finds? Anything you’ve tried and absolutely hated?
Tidbits:
- I just saw the post truck drive up…could that be my Shiro order?! Woot woot!
- False alarm. It was coins that my landlord ordered. Boooo!!! (PS “landlord” sounds so distant, really he’s a friend who also owns my house and he’s awesome and he collects coins. You didn’t really need to know all of that but aren’t you glad that you do? Of course you are.)
- We’ve had a pair of hawks living on our property this Spring and I think they actually have babies! Little squeaky hawk sounds! It’s spectacular!
Lol, I love reading your tidbits, they’re so fun. =D These are all pretty shades, but nothing I’d really wear (I’m too bright and obnoxious!). I am 99% positive I own Peach Poppy, though, and it’s not so bad for me! I found it pretty even and not drying. =( Maybe you got a bad tube?
I’ve been wearing The Balm’s Read My Lips lipgloss in Grrr!! lately and it’s so great. It’s beautiful over almost every single colour in my stash. Definitely a keeper. Have you ever tried The Balm?
Haha, I’m glad you enjoy the tidbits!
Maybe I did get a bad tube, normally I don’t hate Maybelline’s lipstick formula quite so much and I have another from the Rebel Bloom line and it isn’t quite so bad.
I have the Meet Matt Nude palette from the Balm and I waffle between loving it and not so much loving it. The Read My Lips glosses are so cute! And Grr!! Looks really beautiful. I think The Balm has some of the best packaging out there, they have a good sense of humor.
Haha, I really do love the Balm’s cute pin up packaging the most. The Matt(e) Nude palette looks interesting to me, how does it work for you?
I need to do a comprehensive review on it soon. I don’t ever use it exclusively for a look but it’s a great companion palette to pair with shimmery or bright shadows. I find I only use 2 or three shades consistently. It’s a little powdery. I don’t really feel strongly about it one way of the other.
Oh, I see. =( That’s a bit of a shame! The smokebalm palettes are really, really good.
It’s definitely not bad or anything and I find it a very convenient companion palette, but there’s just something kind of lacking and I’m not exactly sure what.
Yeah, I understand exactly. I kind of feel the same way about tarte’s tartelette palette. There’s something I just find a little off about it!
