July 2016 Empties

It’s been a while since I did an empties post. In fact, the last one was in March! So I guess what I’m trying to say is that you may need a snack before we get started because this could turn out to be a rather long post.

I’m going to lump some things together so that it doesn’t take 83 years to read this post. You’re welcome.

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner – ZERO: I FINALLY used this little guy up! I think I have two more of the travel size Zero pencils in my stash. It is actually a very good black eyeliner. It lasts ok (generally through the morning for me) but mostly I like that it doesn’t migrate away from my waterline.

  • Number of times purchased: I’ve never purchased this particular shade but I have multiples of it, it seems it’s a popular choice to include in sample bags and with UD purchases.
  • Would I repurchase: I dig the 24/7 pencils and would most likely consider purchasing this shade again. I would like to try Perversion before I purchase a full size of Zero though.

NARS Larger Than Life Eye Pencil – BLACK: This was part of last years Sephora birthday gift. I do not love this. It smudges everywhere and I ended up looking like a racoon after a few hours. Also, the actual eyeliner portion of the pencil fell out of the pencil.

  • Number of times purchased: One gift, never purchased.
  • Would I repurchase: NO

I truly do not know how I ended up with so many empty mascaras tubes. Black magic may be involved.

Avon Super Extend Extreme Mascara: This was a gift from my daughter in law in South Africa. This is a really nice mascara! No smudging or flaking or anything weird, and it’s quite lengthening. It does have a small amount of fibers in it which isn’t always my favorite thing since I have sensitive eyes but there weren’t so many that it was a huge irritant.

  • Number of times purchased: Gifted once
  • Would I repurchase: Most likely not, I prefer a volumizing mascara most of the time.

Benefit Roller Lash: This was a gift from my blogging bestie Glamour Vortex. This is a great mascara! It’s a good separating mascara and it has some curling properties which is nice. I didn’t experience anything strange with this either, no smudging or flaking etc.

  • Number of times purchased: Gifted to me one time.
  • Would I repurchase: Maybe

Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara: This is one of my favorite mascaras. I have multiple back ups and would be exceptionally sad if this was ever discontinued. The only other mascara that I’ve tried that I like as much as this is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. This is a great volumizing mascara that gives a “fan of lashes” effect if that makes any sense. It’s delightful and only something like $3.00

  • Number of times purchased: 10+
  • Would I repurchase: Absolutely!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: This came with the Chocolate Bar Palette if I remember correctly (although, let it be stated for the record that we should never rely on my memory for anything at all really). This is a VERY volumizing mascara. I really liked it quite a lot and it isn’t dissimilar to the Jordana mascara. Maybe a bit more clumpy? Sometimes I kind of like that and other times, not so much.

  • Number of times purchased: 1 gift with purchase.
  • Would I repurchase: Maybe, while I liked it a lot, I have a hard time justifying a high priced mascara when I have one I love for under $5.00.

Paula’s Choice Ultra-Rich Soothing Body Butter: Clearly a sample, this was quite nice but I have no plans on purchasing a full size. I’ll gladly use up any samples I can get in future PC orders.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Glow Moisture: Another sample. This made my skin quite soft but it also has a self tanning kind of thing going on. At least it smelled like fake tan. Strongly. Would not purchase a full size.

Tony Moly Ferment Snail Eye Mask – Timeless: First things first, I don’t feel like this really did anything at all for my skin. BUT…it was so much fun to use. The little gel pad things feel disgusting and delightfully slimy, like jello. It was great!

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: Maybe? Just for the novelty factor.

Life Brightening Facial Sheet Mask: This was part of a give away hosted by Stashy over at Stash Matters. This was a fantastic sheet mask! It was so moisturizing and the lotion didn’t just evaporate immediately, it felt like it was actually sticking around long enough to do something nice for my skin.

  • Number of times purchased: Gifted to me 1 time.
  • Would I purchase: I would, but to my knowledge, this is not available in the US. I’ll do a more in depth online search and see if I can track it down though because it really was quite good.

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo: This might be the best dry shampoo I’ve tried so far. It has almost no white cast and is relatively light weight in the hair.

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: Yes

Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat: This is my go to favorite top coat. It dries in under five minutes which is really my top priority in a top coat. It does shrink a bit but that is minimized by making sure the polish underneath is dry first and by also applying the Seche Vite to the free edge of the nail. I almost never get chipped nails within 5 days and that’s probably due in part to this top coat.

  • Number of times purchased: 10+
  • Would I repurchase: Always and forever.

CVS Hand Sanitizer: Pretty boring stuff and I’m not sure why I included it in the photo? It’s hand sanitizer…it’s a good thing to have. That’s about all that can be said about it really.

Haus Of Gloi Pumpkin Butter – SATYR: This is a really nice moisturizer. It IS a bit greasy initially but it sinks in pretty well and makes my skin very smooth. This scent starts out smelling a bit like lemon cleaning products and then melts into an orange Popsicle/vanilla/patchouli scent. The scent IS strong and does linger on clothes or sheets for a long time.

  • Number of times purchased: This is the first HoG product I purchased.
  • Would I repurchase: I purchased a few more Pumpkin Butters recently in different scents. This scent was ok, but not my new favorite fragrance.

TokyoMilk Dark Hand Cream – La Vie La Mort: The TokyoMilk Dark hand creams are my favorite. They’re rich and incredibly moisturizing. They’re a bit thick and greasy for a few minutes but they do ultimately sink into the skin (or evaporate…I’m never completely certain about whether it’s possible for lotion to “sink in” to the skin or not) and the moisture and fragrance lasts me through about 2 hand washings. La Vie La Mort is my favorite scent in the line (it’s a fresh clean scent) but Everything And Nothing is very good as well (another fresh clean, green scent). There’s a fragrance that smells a bit like chocolate and a new scent called Novocain that I really want to try. I used to get pretty bad eczema on my hands and it went away when I started using TokyoMilk. Apparently I have lots of thoughts on this product.

  • Number of times purchased: This is the second tube of this scent and the third tube I’ve used up.
  • Would I repurchase: I have already!

Milani Moisture Lock Lip Treatment – Coconut Oil infused and Rosehip Oil infused: These are nice enough. They look really lovely on and last around 30 minutes. They smell great although there is a slight synthetic note to the fragrance. I had one at my desk at the office and one that I would use while I was getting ready in the morning. Neither of these are completely empty but the amount of makeup and previous lip colors that the applicator picks up from my lips and re-deposits into the tube started freaking me out so I’m throwing these out.

  • Number of times purchased: I purchased three tubes at the same time.
  • Would I repurchase: Unlikely but never say never I guess.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask: This is the best lip treatment that I’ve ever tried hands down. I use it at night and it will keep my lips from getting chapped in the first place. It is wonderful and I don’t really buy much chapstick any more, I just use this.

  • Number of times purchased: This is still the first tube I purchased, this stuff lasts FOREVER. Like years. It’s a little nuts.
  • Would I repurchase: I already have and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Nivea Lip Butter – Vanilla Macadamia Kiss: This smells AMAZING. But it dries my lips out and only lasts for a few minutes.

  • Number of times purchased: I purchase one of each scent when they first came out.
  • Would I repurchase: No. Which is sad because, again, they smell SO. GOOD.

Dior Diorskin Nude Powder: This powder is lovely, but sadly discontinued. It was a nice glowy finish that rarely looked powdery. I’m bummed out that I can’t get my hands on this anymore!

  • Number of times purchased: 1 (this lasted literally for YEARS)
  • Would I repurchase: I liked this enough that I may look to see if Dior replaced this with something else and I would be willing to try out the replacement for sure. This was a fantastic powder.

Adidas For Women Control Cool & Care Anti-Perspirant: I bought this in South Africa and it was hands down the most effective anti-perspirant I have ever used. When they claim 48 hours of control they aren’t joking. This shit works yo. I can’t buy this anywhere near me and I can’t find the Control type online, but there’s a Soften and a Fresh line that I might try to snag. Online it ranges from $6-$13 which is a little weird but potentially worth it.

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: Absolutely if I can get my hands on it!

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm: This balm is the bomb! Ha! Seriously though, this is the best makeup remover I’ve ever used. It doesn’t leave a residue, it removes mascara, sunscreen, eyeliner, the works, it doesn’t irritate my eyes and a jar lasts for months. I feel no need to try any other makeup remover ever again.

  • Number of times purchased: This is the second jar I believe.
  • Would I repurchase: Yep

Rohto Hadalabo Shirojyun Albutin Milk: I purchase this off of Amazon for around $12.00 ($17 once shipping is added) and it’s great. It’s a good moisturizing toning lotion and I recommend it!

  • Number of times purchased: This is the second bottle I’ve used up.
  • Would I repurchase: Yes, I’m trying something else out at the moment but The Hadalabo lotion is very good.

CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum and Skin Renewing night cream: I think this is the second or third round of these moisturizers that I’ve purchased and I love them. My skin has never been more calm and I rarely feel dry through out the day. They’re pricey for drug store but still much cheaper than high end and much more effective than a lot of high end products I’ve tried in the past. They’re great if you have dry skin!

  • Number of times purchased: 3?
  • Would I repurchase: Yep!

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream: This is a good enough eye cream. Honestly, I have yet to find any eye cream that really does anything that wows me, but this one is alright.

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: Maybe

Paula’s Choice Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum: This is a great serum, I’ve since switched to the one that has retinol and I like it better, but if you don’t want retinol I highly recommend this serum.

  • Number of times purchased: 2 or 3
  • Would I repurchase: Yes if you count the retinol variety.

Andalou Naturals Turmeric + C Enlighten Serum: This is a nice light vitamin C serum that smells like oranges. I noticed an immediate improvement in my skin when I started using this. I’m currently trying out a different vitamin C serum but honestly, I think that I’ll go back to the Andalou serum. I like this just as much as the Ole Henricksen serum but this is much less expensive.

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: Yes

Bath And Body Works Three Wick Candle – LEAVES: This scent is soooo good. To me it smells like apple cider. It only comes out in the fall but keep an eye out for it because it’s amazing and one of the really really strong BBW candle fragrances.

  • Number of times purchased: 1
  • Would I repurchase: YES

The end is in sight friend!

I’m going to cheat a bit and refer you to the brow product post I did for these products. Let’s just say that I won’t be repurchasing these personally but they aren’t necessarily bad products, just not the products for me.

Can you believe it, we’re finally finished! Have you tried any of these products before? I’d love to compare notes in the comments!

  • Gray Cat did not approve of me taking all of these photos of things that are not him:

Do you know how hard it is to do anything when a cat keeps giving you head buts?

  • If you want to get great legs and a killer booty but don’t want to go to the gym, lunges are where it’s at. I hate them with a fiery passion but man do they work. Seriously, go do fifty walking lunges and see how sore you are tomorrow.
  • I started watching Game of Thrones a couple of weeks ago when I was traveling and I’m hooked. I’m having dreams about Beyond The Wall. It’s crazy. But good.

  1. So many cool products that sound great! I really want to try that Jordana mascara, now. 😀 Too bad about the Nars pencil, that’s awful! I also have one of those Life Brand masks tucked away somewhere – need to try it sometime.

  2. Wowee, your empties is glorious! 😀
I’ve heard nothing but bad reviews on those Nars Larger Than Life eyeliners – I will be staying away!
I got through mascaras quickly too – I have no qualms about using a mascara for a month and tossing. I just prefer fresh tubes.
Can you lay this rumour to rest? Is the Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara discontinued or not? I’ve heard that it is…
I never know if one time sheet masks are truly doing anything for my skin – I just know temporarily it feels good and it’s cheaper than going for a facial at a spa! 😛 And you’re right, that mask I sent you is only available in Canada since they’re the private label brand of our drugstore. Let me know if you want more of them!
Have you ever tried the Poshe quick dry top coat? I switched from Seche to that one and I’ve not looked back – the key reason is that Poshe doesn’t cause tip shrinkage!
I’ve read mixed reviews on those Milani lip oils but I think people are expecting too much from a drugstore lip oil…
Re: the Addidas antiperspirant, I’ll have a look to see if it’s available here. I know they do sell Addidas antiperspirants at the drugstore here.
I’ve been thinking about trying the Rohto Hadalabo… you may have just swayed me!
Oh I did not know that Andalou made a Vitamin C serum. I’m in the market for a new one!
WHAT, did you chop ALL your hair off?!!
And ugh, GOT. We may or may not be taking a cruise with the specific intent of going to Dubrovnik, Croatia, since part of the show was filmed there.

    1. You had a recent rather glorious empties post as well! 🙂
I think the NARS eyeliners are quite expensive if I’m remembering correctly. I would have been so ticked if I had paid for it!
I prefer a fresh mascara as well. Plus I have definitely experienced eye irritation if I use a mascara for too long at all.
I may have contributed to the Jordana mascara discontinuation rumor. Oops! I thought some time ago that it was being discontinued so I bought umpteen tubes but so far it still seems to be getting re-stocked on the regular so I’m thinking I may have been misinformed. I don’t have any definitive knowledge about it one way or the other though.
I’ve considered the Poshe top coat several times actually but I think it might not dry as fast as I would want it to (I have high dry time demands, what I can I say!)
I think people were expecting the Milani lip oils to be dupe for the YSL Tint In Oil but they’re a much different consistency. I quite like them but my expectations weren’t that high. I will say that there isn’t much product in the tube, but since there’s so much transfer back into the tube…that’s not really a bad thing.
Definitely try the Andalou Vitamin C serum! I’d be really interested to know what you think of it!
Totally chopped all off lol. Actually…it’s even shorter now. I’m going to end up bald if I keep going at this rate 😀
DUDE! I need to know more about this cruise! That sounds incredible! do you know what portions of the show were filmed in Croatia? There’s some seriously amazing scenery in GoT.
