You might already know this, but I’m a pretty big fan of My Pretty Zombie eyeshadows. Not such a huge fan of zombies in general, but the MPZ eyeshadows are basically the bomb diggity. I’ve written about a few shades previously and I’ve also named this brand’s formula in a yearly favorites post. All that being said, I bought a few more shadows from the company not too long ago (just kidding, it was actually quite long ago, back in May in fact. Can you believe it’s July already?!?!!!) and I wanted to get a quick swatch post up because what? There’s a sale! Who doesn’t love a sale on makeup? Am I right?
MPZ is celebrating their 6 year anniversary and giving a 33% discount from July 1-July 8. In light of the deadline, I’m not going to do much by way of a review in this post, instead I’ll just focus on swatches. I think I may do actual reviews on each shade individually to break it down into manageable chunks.
(Quick aside, I have to tell you that as I’m writing this, Gray Cat is throwing some sort of weird fit. He’s pretty sure that my time would be better spent playing with him as opposed to writing on a computer and when I didn’t immediately see the wisdom of the Gray Cat, he tried to eat my journal, then he scent marked my laptop, then he tried to play with his toys by himself and when that wasn’t so much fun he sat right in front of me, sighing loudly with his back to me. Maybe another play break is in order.)
A whole mess o’ goodies!
Gifts with purchase were nice and generous! If you remember from my last post (or if you’ve ordered from MPZ yourself), generally all orders come with a plastic severed finger. Now, while that doesn’t particularly bother me, I wanted to point out that if you request it at the time of your order, you can get a little toy cat instead of a finger. You know, if you’re squeamish or just really like cats.
Let’s start the swatches with the GWP batch.
How cute is that label? “Vince’s High Six Hand Cream” smells like fruit punch and while the smell lingers for quite a while, it isn’t over powering. Not my favorite type of scent in the world but the hand cream is nice enough and a cool addition to the gift with purchase baggie.
Pancakes! Highlight – This has a pretty greenish tone but it is a VERY subtle highlight. Pretty, but barely there once applied.
Do NOT Sit Next To Dennis! Contour – I love that I have a sample of a contour powder in an odd shade. I probably wouldn’t ever order something like this but it will be really fun to try out! (So far I’ve been too chicken)
Dr. Pickles Miraculous Beauty Powder – I received a sample of this in my last order and it’s a nice setting powder.
Onward to blushes!
Blush swatching method for the curious: Top swatch is a pretty heavy swatch applied with my finger. Second swatch is still pretty heavily applied but applied with a blush brush, just like how you would apply it on your face. Only in my case, with about 2 x as much product since I don’t tend to wear a heavy blush application all that often.
PCP Blush
From the website:
I look at drug names all day long at my day job…what better thing to name a product that gives you a glowing visage.
Please don’t do drugs though ,okay? They are very bad.
“Phencyclidine, commonly initialized as PCP and known colloquially as angel dust, is a recreational dissociative drug. Formerly used as an anesthetic agent, PCP exhibits both hallucinogenic and neurotoxic effects.”-wikipedia
PCP Blush is a running naked from the cops peach with gold glitter
How much do you love the shade description on this? I adore it. And I quite like this blush too! On the face it is a slightly apricot/peach shade that reads as a neutral blush. Very wearable. Not too glittery or shimmery at all.
MDMA Blush
From the website:
In popular culture, MDMA has become widely known as ‘ecstasy’ (‘E’ or ‘X’), usually referring to its street pill form, although this term may also include the presence of possible adulterants. The terms “‘molly’ and ‘mandy’ can colloquially refer to MDMA in crystalline or powder form.”-wikipedia
MDMA Blush is a rosy pink with a gold afterglow.
I find this to be ever so slightly too cool toned for me, but it can give that nice sun burned look which I actually really like.
And now on to my favorite things to swatch: eyeshadow!
as per usual when I swatch loose eyeshadow, I’ve swatched these using a small flat paddle/concealer brush. This swatch session I changed things up a little bit and patted the eyeshadow onto the left half of the swatch and brushed/buffed it into the right half of the swatch. With a lot of loose eyeshadow the application method really changes the way an eyeshadow looks but with these it was mostly uniform across the board. And now YOU are bored. So much rambling on things that aren’t that interesting. What can I say, it’s part of the charm that is this website.
Weird Dent
Can anyone ever have to many lime green things in their life? I think not.
Rabies
13 Gypsies
Static
Static is my perfect green. I love it.
Cookie Pants
From the website:
Ah, CookiePants! A fantastic name for a cat and also for an eyeshadow!
My latest custom color request, CookiePants is a warm brown with a gold to rose/wine shift.
Everyone loves CookiePants!!!!
I found that this had a much stronger “rose/wine” tone than “warm brown with gold” tone. But then I’ve only used it once so far so I reserve final judgement on what colors dominate.
Rash
Less annoying than the real thing!
Totally forgot about making this one. I passed out samples to my co workers under the name of “murder”. Then I decided it wasn’t at all murdery, made a new color called murder, and never thought about this one again.
Until my work kids started clamoring for more of this one.Rash is kind of a light pinkish burgundy with lots of shimmer.
I feel like the online description AND the online swatch are fairly close to what I see when I swatch or use this shade. Some of the website swatches are pretty different from how they swatch in real life.
Baby May
I honestly can’t remember if I have used Baby May in a look yet or not. I don’t have any photos of it on my eyes in any case.
Grandma Cleavage
I’ve actually been wearing Grandma Cleavage all week this last week and I have lots of thoughts! I’ll definitely do an entire post just on this shade.
I wrote this in several of the photo captions but I don’t think captions are all that easy to see on WordPress sites any more so I’ll mention it again; because I’m kind of rushing this post a tad, I’m leaving out all of the “here’s what’s on my face” kind of information. I do have it all recorded so if you have questions or are curious about anything let me know.
Do you plan on getting anything during the “Huge Ass Sale”? Even though I just placed an order I’m sorely tempted to place another one. Here are a few things that are perpetually on my MPZ wish list:
- Fluoxotine Blush
- Avulsion eyeshadow
- Black Eye eyeshadow
- In Rust eyeshadow
- Lulu Cupcake eyeshadow
- Miasma eyeshadow
- Mng No.2 eyeshadow
And here is a quick list of my favorite shades that I own from MPZ:
- Brisket – you need this in your life. If you only order one thing ever, make it Brisket. You can see my swatches of this shade on my last MPZ post.
- Celery and Bile – another gorgeous unique shade, this one quite a bit more “wearable” than it appears on the website.
- Anthrax – purple duochrome
In my opinion, MPZ’s strong suit is their duochromes. Andrea doesn’t mess around with her duochrome formula and there is serious and amazing shifty goodness in every duochrome that I’ve ordered from the company.
I would suggest that if you’re picky about what colors you like and you’re thinking of making an order: check out lots of online swatches. The swatches on the MPZ website can be a little misleading. Don’t get me wrong, I could look at the gorgeous eyeball swatches all day, but they’re swatched over a white base and under really really good lighting so YMMV.
Tidbits:
- My office shuts down for almost two weeks for the Fourth of July holiday and I am OFFICIALLY ON VACATION! Woot woot!
- I’m still hooked on the Jane Yellowrock series.
- If you’re into religious/motivational/inspirational books, I just started reading “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp and it’s really good. We could all use a bit more gratitude in our lives I think.
- I went to the gym for the first time in three weeks yesterday. My butt is so freaking sore. It’s terrible. And I only put 40 lbs on the squat bar! Sissy weights kicked my butt! In fact, Gray Cat and I are considering sleeping on the couch because I may not be able to stand up again. I don’t know what Gray Cat’s excuse is, I suspect he’s just being lazy.
Haha, Grey Cat is such an attention whore! 😛
Hrm, a gift of toy cat or a severed finger – tough choice…
Is that contour powder navy / grey? 😕 That’s really weird.
“PCP Blush is a running naked from the cops peach with gold glitter” 😆
I feel like I need Darling Girl Glitter Glue based on your swatches. Is it sticky?
13 Gypsies and Cookie Pants are my kind of my colour!
Grandma Cleavage is such an awesome name lmao!
So will you be picking up those items on your in the sale? You know you waaaaan to! 😉
Wow, your office shuts down for 2 weeks? Manadatory vacation? NICE. I’m jealous.
He really is an attention whore, it’s true 🙂
It’s kind of a murky navy shade and yes, it’s definitely weird. Maybe I’ll use it if we go to another Halloween party in the future! Blue seems like it would make a good corpse type contour shade 🙂
I quite like the Glitter Glue, but to tell the truth, it’s the only glitter glue that I’ve tried so far so I don’t have much basis for comparison. The initial product is quite thin, like a light weight, water based or gel based moisturizer. It remains kind of wet feeling for a while but it isn’t really very sticky. Eventually it dries down completely and I stop being aware of its presence, somewhat like a primer does. I feel like this description is going to be MORE confusing lol.
I maaaaayyyy have placed an order….O_O
We’re super lucky with our shut down schedule. For me it’s great because we have a VERY small office (there are just two of us) so it’s hard for me to take much vacation time otherwise because there’s no one to cover my work load. The summer and winter shut down that we do definitely come as a welcome and much needed break when they roll around 🙂
Oh I love all the shadows that you got! And I love the blushes! I always forget about this company until you do a haul!
These shadows are really SO nice! You should definitely check them out, I think you’d dig them 🙂
