MAC Mineralized Skin Finish – Lightscapade

Makeup trends come and go (duh) but I feel like highlighting has been having a rather long moment and I couldn’t be more pleased about that. Highlighter is just fun. It’s bright and happy and it can be shiny or sparkly, there’s basically not much I don’t like about highlighter.

Today we’re going to take a look at one of MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finishes in the shade Lightscapade.

On the spectrum of highlighters, Lightscapade falls in the “glowy” category. There isn’t really any shimmer or glitter but it isn’t exactly matte either.

I have to say that when I first swatched this after purchase, I was a little underwhelmed. I mean, I like some reflective highlight most of the time so this seemed pretty tame. But you know what? The more I used it the more I fell in love with it. I find myself reaching for this as a highlight on a very regular basis. In fact, the other day I went so far as to grab another highlight from my drawer but then decided to use Lightscapade instead. Now I’m not ready to claim that this is my all time favorite highlight because those are hefty words, but what I will claim is that this is my highlighter of the moment. It just makes my skinย look so fresh and dewy and what’s not to love about that?

From the MAC website:

Soft candlelit beige with multidimensional shimmer

Full Description

A luxurious, slow-baked, velvety soft, domed face powder with a radiant finish. Strategically buff on to add highlights to the high points of the face, or blend all over for a sheer luminous polish to the skin. Features our 77-Mineral Complex and vitamin E.
  • Provides radiance
  • Features a 77-Mineral Complex
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Ophthalmologist tested
  • Non-acnegenic

First: Non-acnegenic? I’m pretty sure that is not a word.

Second: 77-Mineral Complex?! Does that mean there are 77 different minerals in this?! Or is this the 77th “complex”?

Third: Ophthalmologist tested. Wut. Seriously? Because this is not even an eye product. Please don’t put this (or any other makeup) IN your eyes people. That’s not going to end well.

It DOES provide radiance.

Ok WTF MAC? I don’t know what is up with their product claims.

I guess to sum up, I would say this is a nice highlight! I haven’t tried it as an all over face powder, I’m not sure I’m ready for that much glow. But I would recommend this highlight for sure!

Mineralize Skinfinishes retail for $32.00 for 10g/.35oz. and can be found on the MAC website or at any MAC store.

Tidbits:

  • Can someone please teach me how to fix hair? I went for a trim and the stylist changed the cut a bit and now I’m totally lost. At this point in my life I feel like fixing my hair is something I should have figured out.
  • We got three new baby trees this weekend! I’m not exactly sure where we’re going to plant them yet but I’m happy about them.
  • We have a new friend. We’ll call her Fillipa. Those of the arachnophobic persuasion should avert their eyes at this point.

  1. Gorgeous!! It looks so perfect and sweet on you. Love your pink lips and mascara! Also, Filipa is a cutie patootie spider I’m guessing? Jumping spider? The image won’t show up for me. =(

I have to add: acnegenic IS totally a word, and it’s in the medical dictionary! News to me. I always thought of the one that starts with a “c” when I think of acne products… cog… something. But the 77th complex is making me lol. I guess ophthalmologist tested is because people use them as inner eye highlights and they don’t want to get sued if someone gets trouble from it going into their eye? MAC definitely makes enough money to afford all sorts of tests to get out of lawsuit troubles, methinks. ๐Ÿ˜›

I dunno how to fix hair… that’s why I’m lazy and leave it all one length, one layer, no fussing. >_>; What happened with it?

  2. This looks really nice on you as a highlighter! Very glowy and doesn’t look crazy intense on you or anything. Like you, I’m not sure this would work as an all-over powder (which applies to any of the MSFs, I think)…would be a little too glowy!
Today I was just sharing stories with a coworker about our arachnaphobia, LOL. Nothing on earth should have eight legs and a billion eyes – that’s just not okay!

    1. Thanks! I definitely dig that it’s a highlight that I can wear anywhere without it being visible from outer space (don’t get me wrong, sometimes that’s fun…just not normally at work). The MSF’s and the Beauty Powders kind of confuse me a bit to be honest. I can’t see any of them really working all that well as an all over face powder.
Lol! That’s too funny! I happen to not mind spiders too much (unless they’re on me…in which case my karate skills become pretty impressive) but I come from a long line of arachnophobic women. I’m pretty sure they would all agree with you on that ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yes, a lot of highlighters are too much for every day wear! You’re right, I find most MSFs and Beauty Powders more suitable as highlighters than all-over face powder.
Ugh, you’re so lucky the arachnophobia skipped you!

  3. I wear a cheek highlighter maaaybe once or twice a month. But let me tell ya, EVERY TIME I wear it, I get compliments on it! You’d think I’d wear it more often, right? Nope. Too lazy.
Yeah I always laugh at MAC’s description of the MSF. I don’t think anyone is buying this highlighter for the 77 different minerals. ๐Ÿ˜†
I like that this highlight isn’t so SHINY, it’s very subtle. It’s on my wish list for ages and I’ll likely pick it up one of these days.
Where’s the pic of Fillipa? I can’t see! I love spiders. Well not LOVE love, but I think they’re more useful than harmful. Unlike mosquitoes, they can go extinct (but too bad they’re useful as food for many other creatures. bah)

    1. Haha! That’s too funny! I understand the lazy factor. I’ve been that way about blush lately.
Oh come on, doesn’t the idea of 77 minerals on your face sound amazing? O_O I mean honestly, what 77 minerals? That’s kind of alarming!
I don’t know why Fillipa’s picture didn’t upload the first go around but I “think” it’s up now. I love spiders too! I mean, I don’t want them on me, that’s no bueno, but I’ll never intentionally squish one. They’re kind of amazing little creatures and they’re beautiful in their own way. Plus that whole keep the pest population thing down is kind of a mark in their favor.
Mosquitos are the worst! Seriously, they’re awful. Where I live we have mosquitos almost year round and it sucks. I have some friends that did a motorcycle trip through part of Canada and they said that the worst part of the trip was NOT sitting all day but apparently the mosquitos are big enough to carry you away up there. Nasty little buggers.

  4. Oh that highlighter is perfect, not too sparketastic!
Did you get a spider ? I’m a wee bit phobic, but only if they get too close to me as I’m insanely allergic to spider bites. But I think they are scary and beautiful creatures!

    1. “not too sparktastic” sums this up perfectly actually! ๐Ÿ™‚
Spider bites are the worst and I can only imagine how unpleasant they would be with an allergy as well. Scary and beautiful is right! This one is definitely on the beautiful side but she was the size of the palm of my hand so the scary bit is also accurate ๐Ÿ™‚
