First Order from Fyrinnae – Eyeshadows

As you know, I’ve been working my way through trying as many indie eye shadows as possible. Today I want to show you what I ordered for my “Indie Birthday Present to Myself” last month.

I did order two lip colors but I’m going to split those into a separate post. Hopefully you can handle the suspense.

The top swatch is over bare skin, the middle swatch is over LORAC Behind The Scenes Primer and the third swatch is over Darling Girl Glitter Glue. All swatches were applied with a concealer paddle brush and more or less patted into place and blended around the edges. That’s basically how I would apply these shadows to my eye.

Do you ever have those weeks where you feel like you hate everything you do with your makeup? I had that going the whole time I was testing these eyeshadows (no fault of the shadows). I just felt like I couldn’t apply makeup worth a darn all week long. I mean, that whole eyeliner situation! Oy.

Darling Girl (DG) Primped and Primed (PP). DG Glitter Glue (GG).Wet n Wild (WnW) Creme Brulee as blending shade and brow highlight. Fyrinnae Fallen Angel Food Cake in the crease. Fyrinnae Bitey Tyranosaur just above the outer wing of the liner. Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions all over the lid. Urban Decay (UD) Zero in the waterline and tightline. Jordana Fabuliner. MUFE Smokey Extravagant mascara.

I love a good peach and gold combination anything really. So I ordered a full size of this shade and it will last me and probably two of my closest friends an entire lifetime. Fyrinnae is not stingey with their product which is cool.

Pale pink with a stunning brilliant light gold highlight

Pretty accurate. The gold with the pink makes it read more peach than pink. Now, on my eye, I get white gold with the tiniest hint of peach/pink. So if you know tricks for bringing out the pink in this shadow, please share! That being said, I do like how light and shimmery this is and I’ve been using quite a bit as an inner corner highlight.

Bawdy Librarian (GWP)

Those small dots in the swatches are raindrops.

DG PP. WnW Brulee as blending and highlight shade. MAC Kid as transition. Bawdy Librarian all over the mobile lid. The lower lashline is a combination of MAC Kid and MAC Woodwinked. MUFE Smokey Extravagant mascara.

This is no basic brown! This, my good guys and dolls, is a lush, shimmery, golden brown rich with gold sparkle. Cameras cannot capture its true beauty; you must get to know the shade in person. Warm-toned, but would work well on many skintones. Darker than it appears here, but gleams in light.

Burlesque, May 2014

I’m so glad that this was my gift with purchase. I’m a little disappointed in myself for not actually opting to order this of my own volition because first, the name! Second, this is such a great color. It really is much more beautiful in person but I think the photos are a pretty ok representation.

Fireside Interlude

fyrinnae_fireside_interlude_eo_8_25
DG PP and DG GG. WnW Brulee as per usual. MAC Kid as a transition shade. Covergirl Expert Eye Quad in Coral Oasis: Peach in the crease and on the lower lash line. Purple as liner. Pink as highlight. Fireside Interlude all over the mobile lid. Rimmel Taupe eyeliner in the waterline. Maybelline Very Berry mascara (LE).

Molten bright copper? Metallic gold on red? You decide. It’s metallic gold on red; a firey, warm blend of hues with a metallic finish, and will appear differently depending on how it’s applied, much like Mephisto. Great for “sunset” looks.

Winter 2013

This eyeshadow man, it’s incredible. I’m trying to resist the urge to go back and order a full size. It’s just perfection. You can definitely bring out those golden red tones but I’ve also been applying this with a fluffy brush in the crease and I’ve liked that a lot too.

DG PP. Hello Waffle (HW) Can’t Or Won’t as blending/highlight shade. Morphe ES62 as transition shade. Morphe ES15 in the outer corner. Fallen Angel Food Cake on the outer 1/3. From The Balm Meet Matte Nude Palette: Matt Lombardi on the inner edge of the orange. Matt Malloy on inner 1/2 of lid. Notoriously Morbid (NM) Power of the Fae on the inner corner and brow bone. MUFE Smokey mascara. Nuance brow powder.

You knew it was coming. Obligatory orange!

Bright tangerine yellow, nearly matte but with a subtle hint of fine shimmer.

New 6/2014

This is a nice orange. I have a lot of orange eyeshadow at this point though so it takes a little bit to impress me maybe? I’m a little “meh” on this one although there is not anything wrong with it.

Bitey Tyrannosaur

bitey_tyrannosaur_product fyrinnae_bitey_tyrannosaur_ds fyrinnae_bitey_tyrannosaur_is fyrinnae_bitey_tyrannosaur_isi

Vibrant yellow shimmer tops a lush green base, creating a rich multi-hued lime.

Not going to lie, I bought this for the name. I couldn’t resist. I’m not sure what to do with this color now that I have it though…

Mystical Hedgehog

DG PP. WnW Brulee. MAC Kid as transition. Covergirl Expert Eye quad in Coral Oasis: dark shade in the outer corner and lower lash line, peach shade on the outer edge and lower lash line, lightest shade on the inner corner. Mystical Hedgehog all over the lid. UD Zero on the waterline and tightline. MUFE mascara.

fyrinnae_mystical_hedgehog_ec_8_24

Appears as a vibrant, shimmering purple with a turquoise-green highlight at a distance, but changes to a warmer purple to pink at an angle or close to light. Photos = rubbish.

Mystical Hedgehog is part of the “Arcane Magic” Line. From the Fyrinnae website:

Fyrinnae’s Arcane Magic Eyeshadows are specialized colours with a highlight which changes hue depending on how the light hits it (closer to or further from a light). This is not the same thing as “duochrome” shadows which usually feature a singular highlight layered on a base hue (our version of which are here) Different light sources may show different shades, too (they do not show as well in sunlight as artifical light, and some may not appear to change at all). Please note that the Arcanes will probably look a little different in photos than in person because of the light-change effect.

I think I’m going to disregard the claims of the Arcane Magic line because A) it feels a wee bit gimmicky but mostly B) I didn’t notice any drastic difference in different light or at different angles. Now that’s part of the whole thing I guess? That you the wearer might not notice the difference but other people will? I don’t know.

Mystical Hedgehog is a vibrant true purple that is incredibly multi-faceted and incredibly pigmented. It applied and blended well and was very easy to build up to a very intense purple. In short, if you love purple, this is one that is absolutely worth checking out because it’s quite lovely.

Dinosaur Plushie

dinosaur_plushie_product fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_ds fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_is fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_isi

fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_eo_8_28
DG PP. I used shades from the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette: Truth as base/blending shade. Undone and Downfall as transition shade (Downfall is also on the lower lash line). Reign in the outer corner. Defy to deepen the outer “V”. DTF on the lid. Angel on the inner 1/4. DG GG was placed on the center of the lid and Dinosaur Plushie was applied over that. MUFE Smokey Extravagant mascara.

fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_ec_2_8_28 fyrinnae_dinosaur_plushie_ec_1_8_28

A flamboyant, eclectic dinosaur covered in glitter, perhaps. Name is unrelated to shade…as usual. Dinosaur Plushie is filled with multi-colored sparkle, some of which can change hue in different light. Transparent over most primers or applied dry (don’t apply this dry unless you’re going for that all-over disco queen look), but over sticky base, like our Pixie Epoxy, it is a gleaming pale metallic with many flashes of colours. Replaces our old shade Equality (and Mischief Makers), but Dino is much more sparkling and multi-dimensional.

Again with the names! Fyrinnae no doubt kills it with the names. This is a definite case of absolutely not one single photo that I took doing this eyeshadow any justice at all. It’s so sparkly and so glittery and it’s really incredibly beautiful. It’s a very fine glitter and I honestly didn’t have much problems with fall out which is surprising in a glitter heavy eye shadow.

Pricing and Availability:

Available from the Fyrinnae website.

Full Size Regular Eyeshadow: $6.75

Mini Regular Eyeshadow: $2.75 for 1/3 tsp.

For Arcane Magic Full Size: $7.30

For Arcane Magic Mini: $2.75 for 1/4 tsp.

Turn Around Time:

When I placed my order they had a kind of scary TAT listed of something like 9 weeks.

I placed my order on August 7th and I believe I received my order on August 19th. So they do pad their TAT a bit.

Wear Time:

I didn’t experience any fading, any creasing or any other weird things with any of these eyeshadows. They all wore beautifully.

Application:

Every one of these applies beautifully as well. I didn’t struggle to build opacity, I find them easy to blend and they were generally very good to work with.

Additional Notes:

Fyrinnae just released their Halloween collection which looks really cool but also, they make a point of stating on their website that they do NOT do limited edition collections! I just think that’s the best thing ever. I hate the mad rush of feeling like if I don’t buy something right this second it will be gone forever and I’m pretty grateful that Fyrinnae isn’t contributing to that. So check out the Halloween Collection but rest assured you’ll be able to order Halloween items at Christmas time if you so choose.

Not all shadows on the website have swatch photos which is unfortunate. Luckily, this brand is on the larger side of the indie spectrum which means that you can google swatches of most all of their shades. So that’s nice.

My favorite from the items I ordered is Fireside Interlude. It’s just really beautiful and it’s the type of shade I’m most drawn to. However, these were all nice and I would particularly recommend Bawdy Librarian, Mystical Hedgehog and Dinosaur Plushie. Those are just my personal favorites out of this order. That being said, I would absolutely order from Fyrinnae again based on the quality of these eyeshadows, they have a lot to offer!

Have you ordered anything from Fyrinnae before? If so what? I’d love specific recommendations for my ever growing wishlist of eyeshadow.

Tidbits:

  • Yesterday was the closing on “our” house and I’m feeling kind of emotional about the whole thing today.
  • I think we’re going to go watch the new Transporter movie this afternoon. I’m a little sad about the lack of Jason Statham but it looks like a fun movie anyway.
  • The latest season of Longmire just came out on Netflix! It is the happy time of year for Netflix really. All the new seasons!

  1. Lol, your orange eyeshadow obsession is hilarious. 😉 I’m the same way with orange lipstick! Your eyeliner in Rapunzel Had Extensions is ballin, dude. Maybe try a cool cream base to bring out the pink?

    I LOVE Fireside Interlude!!

    1. I love that you have the orange lipstick obsession haha!
I think I have a cool pink color tattoo somewhere, I’ll definitely give that a go. Thanks! 🙂
I audibly gasped when I first swatches Fireside Interlude. It’s insanely beautiful.

    1. Seriously though, why does that whole hating all the makeup happen? I’m not a big fan. The Rapunzel shade is one that I’m quite happy to just stare at all awkwardly. It’s so shiny and pretty!

  2. Your swatches are just AWESOME! How many hours / days do you spend doing them? Geez.
Out of your colours, I only own Rapunzel Had Extensions.
Fireside Interlude looks positively HAWT. I know I won’t be able to pull off such a warm shade but it looks amazing… I feel like this is the eye shadow equivalent of that new Essie nail polish in Leggy Legend!
I really like Bawdy Librarian – both the name and the shade are perfection. And Dinosaur Plushie, lol!
I love the fact that you can get sample size of all their colours – I mean, WHO ever finishes up a full size loose eye shadow? No one, that’s who. (still, the full size prices are very very fair)
Fyrinnae is notorious for shutting down their site abruptly due to being “overwhelmed” – a fact that I find a bit unprofessional. But, they do create some beautiful colours so I’m willing to overlook this. I’ve only ever placed one order with them and I took the opportunity to buy their famed Pixie Epoxy – have you considered buying that? It really does make a huge difference to the arcane magic shades.
Shades to recommend: Serendipity, Knickers In A Twist, Immortality, Evocation, Work Safe Blue. 🙂

    1. Thank you! I love swatching things, it’s completely cathartic. I think for this particular batch it only took about an hour or so. Although I’ve definitely spent longer than that on a particular batch in the past.
Fireside Interlude is the bomb. You’re completely right actually! I need to remember that so I can do a severely monochromatic look the next time I wear Leggy Legend. It’s definitely a super warm shade though.
Fyrinnae does a great job with creative names for sure. I feel like Bawdy Librarian is a little more neutral tone wise too so if cooler shades are your preference, it would still be really flattering.
Honestly, 80% of my current love for indie eye-shadow is the availability of sample sizes. It feels so much less wasteful.
I think Fyrinnae has a history of rather dramatic and slightly unprofessional behavior in general. I’ve been aware of them as a brand for a really long time now but sort of avoided ordering from them because it’s a little off putting to be honest. They finally sucked me in with the stunning colors though.
I haven’t tried the Pixie Epoxy yet but I think I’ll use that when I run out of my current glitter glue. I hear there’s a bit of a learning curve with application, do you find it difficult to work with?
Holy cow, Work Safe Blue and Immortality are particularly stunning!

      1. Pixie Epoxy is quite tacky and I mainly use for sparkly or duochrome colours. So what I do is apply my usual eye shadow primer and blend my base powder shadows first. Then I just apply the Pixie Epoxy on the targeted area of the lid I want to apply the accent colour – in a patting motion. Then I apply the loose pigment on top of that. I wouldn’t ever use it all over the lid and try to blend colours over it – just doesn’t work.
