So everyone else is all “July Favorites!” and I’m just over here like “wait, I thought it was still May? What do you mean JULY favorites?!” Also, this intro is totally misleading because this is NOT in fact a favorites post. It is a lipstick post. Because I’m a rebel. With a lipstick cause. ba dum ch!
This week didn’t really follow a pattern or have a color scheme. It was chaos up in here.
Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Rio Rush
Believe it or not, that hand swatch isn’t even as bright as this is in real life when I swatched it. It does settle down to what you see on the lip swatch but it takes a few minutes. Initial Rio Rush is basically neon.
Wear Time:ย Around an hour. Within this particular line of lip products (I may have…most of them…) they do not all wear or stain equally. Rio Rush doesn’t particularly stain at all and has one of the shorter wear times.
Scent: A tart/bitter scent that I normally associate with stains. The scent doesn’t linger but don’t lick your lips unless you want to be sad for a few minutes.
Comfort: For the hour that this looks good, this is very comfortable and not too sticky. After that my lips start feeling pruney and I definitely do not find this moisturizing in the least.
Availability: This is part of the permanent Revlon line and can be found anywhere that you normally find Revlon products.
Rio Rush is so pretty but this isn’t one of my favorite lip products, even within the Moisture Stain line. It’s a tad patchy and doesn’t really wear very long for something that is supposed to stain and be long wearing.
MAC Viva Glam I
Wear Time: 3+ hours which for me is nothing short of miraculous. I don’t normally leave lipstick on when I eat, it just weirds me out, but I did this week! For science! This lipstick held up SO WELL. It was amazing.
Scent: Vanilla
Comfort: Very light and comfortable. I didn’t find this drying and only really felt my lips wanting for a reapplication after a few hours. Even then it was pretty tolerable. This is one of the nicer matte lipstick shades that I’ve worn.
Availability: Viva Glam I is part of the permanent Viva Glam line from MAC and can be purchased at MAC counters or from their website.
I thought this might be a dupe to Milani’s Best Red but it’s a little darker and warmer. The Boy says that the reason I have so many lipsticks is because I’m color blind and I just think they’re all different when really they’re all dupes. He says Best Red is definitely a dupe but he is just confused.
MAC Coral Bliss + Covergirl Lip Lava in Lava Luster
Wear Time: Around an hour and a half (phenomenal for a gloss for me).
Scent: Coral Bliss is Vanilla and Lava Luster is sort of a synthetic fruity scent that doesn’t linger.
Comfort: Lava Luster has some serious glitter particles that are noticeable for the first 30 minutes of wear time. I don’t know what happens after that…they just melt into my lips? I don’t know. I do know that there is visible glitter left after a few hours but I couldn’t feel it beyond the first thirty minutes.
Availability: Coral Bliss is available at MAC counters and from their website and Lava Luster is available at most drugstores. Wherever you normally see Covergirl products!
I’m plugging along at using up Coral Bliss! I will say that there is easily an occasion every week where Coral Bliss works with a look I’m wearing. I really do love this shade and I love how easy it is to pair with other lip products!
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 18 – Prune in Fire
Wear Time: 30 minutes of perfect wear and about an hour of looking acceptable.
Scent: Like a delightfully fruity adult beverage. I think this smells specifically like a Red Headed Slut but the main scent in that drink is from the peach schnapps. So I guess it smells like peach schnapps.
Comfort: Very smooth and light. Quite comfortable. After about an hour my lips feel bare and want a reapplication. YSL does claim that the Rouge Volupte Shine line is supposed to improve the condition of your lips but I don’t find that to be particularly true. It isn’t drying but it certainly isn’t moisturizing either.
Availability: Sad sad sad times. This particular shade seems to be discontinued. I’ll work on trying to find a dupe as far as color goes but so far, this is unique in my particular collection (though I know for a fact it isn’t a totally unique shade).
Estee Lauder Pure Color Luscious Plum
Wear Time: Around 30 minutes.
Scent: None
Comfort: Slightly slick feeling. Not sticky. Not drying. Not moisturizing. Comfy.
Availability: This was limited edition I believe from last summers Bronze Goddess collection.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
Wear Time: An hour of perfect wear. After two hours, the color is gone and I’m left with glitter but my lips still felt like there is product on them.
Scent: Almost indiscernible vanilla.
Comfort: Great! I can feel the glitters ever so slightly (this is the only Lip Butter I have that actually has glitter in it) but it isn’t irritating. My lips feel fantastic after a day of wearing this product.
Availability: Anywhere Revlon is sold! This is one of my favorites from the Lip Butter line (and again…I….have one or ::cough:: two::cough::)
I think I want to do a post on the Covergirl Lip Lava glosses. I didn’t care for them initially but they’re quickly becoming my favorite gloss line. This week I rediscovered Revlon’s Peach Parfait Lip Butter. It had been a while since I last wore that and I forgot how gorgeous it is. I mean, did you see that swatch?! Also, that Viva Glam I from MAC is AMAZING. It’s new to my collection and this was my first time wearing it and now I’m a little obsessed. Just stunning. I’ve given up full sentences. It’s Friday!
So what did you wear this week? Have you recently rediscovered anything in your stash? Any new lipstick loves? Any fun weekend plans?
Tidbits
- Did I mention it’s Friday? Woot woot!
- It is also a Blue Moon!
- We have found two more lizards in the house since my last post. It would seem that Gray Cat has no intentions of giving up his reptile habit.
- I just finished watching the first season of Downton Abbey and I’m obsessed. It’s so good! I love Mary. She’s weirdly relate-able. And I feel inspired to start writing letters again as an actual form of correspondence.
- If you know of a profession where I could wear dresses from 1912 all the time…
- I tried to get an updated picture of Agatha but she’s being guarded by wasps. That right. A huge ass spider has wasp minions. Surely it is the end times.
Rio Rush and Prune in fire look so stunning on you! But peach parfait is definitely gorgeous. Trying to think of a dupe for prune in fire, not sure yet, maybe one of the wet n wild megaslick balm stain sticks…
Still haven’t tried Downtown Abbey yet. It looks like a fun show to watch for the visuals alone!
Ooh I haven’t tried the balm stains yet, I’ll have to check that out! I think that one of the lipsticks in the Fergie line might be similar if not the same but I haven’t tested that theory yet. You would LOVE Downton Abbey! The costumes are so amazing and the abbey where they filmed is stunning. You need to watch it so we can discuss it ๐ there’s a great balance in the story line between the upper class characters and the servants and it’s fascinating.
The balm stains are really nice. They pull off that effortless Summer lipbalm look so well. I think they have a dark purple? Either wet n wild or LA Colors does, and both their balm stains are really nice.
Lol! Duly noted, I’ll have to load it up on Netflix (if it’s on there) tonight and give it a go. It’s one of those shows I keep meaning to watch but never do, like Scandal and Mad Men. =P Historical accuracy is always the best!
Sadly it isn’t on netflix anymore. At the moment in watching it on amazon.
You are just hilarious, your posts make me giggle ๐ Anywho about that ysl thang..I’m thinking the Sonia Kashuk Shine Luxe Sheer lip colors might be similar in consistency, not sure if there’s an exact dupe. I love em, anyhow, they’re so comfy and just the right amount of color. Plus, they’re at Target ๐
(blushes) Thank you!
I haven’t actually tried any lip products from Sonia Kashuk so thanks for the recommendation! I’ll take any excuse to visit Target. There’s some sort of weird black magic afoot there.
I work there and I can attest to that ๐
You must have iron self control. I would be totally broke if I worked there!
It is a great review! I want to try Revlon lipsticks. The seem very beautiful.
And MAC Viva so suits you! It is really your shade!
Thanks so much! I really like revlon lipstick a lot. The regular lipstick line is one my favorite formulas overall.
