April 2015 Empties

This empties session is 25% empties and 75% “I had to clean out my cabinets or everyone in my household would be in constant danger of being crushed under an avalanche of expired beauty products and things I don’t like but can’t throw away because I might like them five years from now”. But that title was too lengthy.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Gel – I have owned this bottle so long that this product has a new name. It’s longer. Because  marketing personnel seem to actually think that we’re all impressed by long names. Men. I tell ya. Anyway, this is nice enough, it smells pleasant (or it did when I purchased it…back when it was “NEW!”) and it is hydrating enough if I remember correctly but I have other body oils that absorb more completely. Will I repurchase: Probably not.

Victoria’s Secret Amber Romance Body Lotion – I really love the consistency of the Victoria’s Secret lotions. They’re incredibly hydrating and just feel amazing. The scents are all VERY strong which is sometimes nice and sometimes not so much. Will I repurchase: The product, yes, in this scent, no. It’s too cloying for me.

Anfora Rosa Body Oil – This is a lovely bath oil (I haven’t used it directly on my skin) if you like a rose scent. It’s also really inexpensive (under $5.00). Unfortunately, some iterations of rose are headache inducing for me and this particular oil falls within that category. It’s a nice scent, I just can’t personally handle it for more than a few moments. Will I repurchase: Nope.

Johnson’s No More Tears Baby Shampoo – I use this to wash my makeup brushes and it works like a dream! Fun story: I’m a clutz and I drop things. Sadly, it would appear that this particular bottle cracked when I dropped it only I didn’t actually notice this so it leaked everywhere! See! Fun! Will I repurchase: Probably.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser – This is very similar to the Cetaphil cleanser, only it is slightly more viscous and feels as though it is cleansing my skin a bit more thoroughly. Will I repurchase: I am already half way through another bottle. It’s not my new favorite, but it’s great in the winter if you struggle with dry skin.

Jergen’s Natural Glow – This is a nice gradual tanner. The self tan scent isn’t as strong as many other products I’ve tried and the results are modest so no orange stripes. This particular bottle also has SPF which is fantastic! Sadly it’s a chemical sunscreen so it makes me feel a wee bit itchy. Will I repurchase: There are other versions without sunscreen and I may try one of those.

Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminater – This is a very pretty highlighter that gives a nice glow rather than sparkle. I suppose that it’s possible that I purchased a bad bottle, but this smells dreadful. The scent dissipates after about 15 minutes but then I can’t shake the feeling of having something gross on my face. Hopefully it’s a bad bottle and they don’t all smell like this. Will I repurchase: Nope! (Although I’m really interested to know if you’ve tried this product. If so, what are your thoughts? Does it smell weird? Do you love it? Hate it? Who knew I had so many questions about a highlighter!)

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50 Mineral Tinted – I’m always on the lookout for a good mineral sunscreen and I’ve been looking for one with a tint that doesn’t give the intense whitecaste that is so common in sunscreens. Sadly, the search continues. This sunscreen is fine, it’s a liquid/oil consistency so it doesn’t feel thick but it doesn’t really absorb completely either so I was still left looking a little greasy. It also has a fragrance that I’m not wild about. Maybe a combination of crayons and makeup? All of this would not be so bad, I’d at least use up the tube, but the color really didn’t work for me. image_6

Would I repurchase: nope.

Garnier Dark Spot Corrector – I was hoping that this would lessen the visibility of my sun induced mustache. Alas and alack it wasn’t meant to be.

Would I repurchase: no.

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur – this is a nice silicone based primer. I actually don’t have any real thoughts on this, it was very middle of the road for me. I don’t wear much foundation but this worked when I do. That’s all I can really say.

Would I repurchase: probably not

Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum – this came as a part of a kit a very long time ago and I FINALLY finished it. I didn’t notice that this product did a damn thing for my hair.

Would I repurchase: no.

Josie Maran Argan Oil – argan oil is argan oil. There is not one iota of difference between the Josie Maran brand and whatever brand you find in your health food store or anywhere else. Except the price. Just buy your face oils from a reputable source and you should be fine. Seriously. You’re welcome.

Would I repurchase: nope (but I do use argan oil fairly regularly…just not this brand)

L’Oreal Age Perfect Golden Balm Eye Cream – I quite liked this as far as eye creams go. It’s VERY emollient so I wouldn’t recommend it for those with very oily eyelids. This didn’t do anything miraculous for my crows feet or anything but I didn’t really expect it to, I just wanted a good moisturizer that didn’t burn my eyes and this worked.

Would I repurchase: maybe

Paula’s Choice Resist Super Antioxidant Serum – I quite like this. It’s not a visible miracle worker but it absorbs nicely, adds some extra hydration, doesn’t irritate my skin or break me out and it’s relatively affordable. Plus antioxidants and stuff yo.

Would I repurchase: done aaaand done!

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recovery complex – I like this serum a lot but it is pricey. And I have been without it for nearly a month now and my skin is amazing at the moment so I guess it isn’t missing it. Go figure.

Would I repurchase: probably not

My Beauty Diary Imperial Bird’s Nest Mask – I like this mask. I haven’t tried all that many sheet masks but this one is nice. There is a LOT of serum. I used the same sheet two days in a row and still had serum left over for my hands and chest and arms. It didn’t actually fit my face very well but it was workable.  These are also relatively cheap. I purchased mine on Amazon and it was around $14.00 for 10 masks.

Would I repurchase: maybe but it will take me a while to use up all of the masks I already have.

I SHALL HAUNT YOUR DREAMS HUMAN!

Karuna Hydrating Face Mask – I really liked this mask a lot. It fit really well and was super saturated with serum. Again, enough for multiple uses or total body application. Plus it fit better than the My Beauty Diary masks.  But it was $8.00. For one. Sad! I purchased this one at sephora.

Would I repurchase: it’s unlikely due to the cost but sometimes sephora suckers me into last minute purchases at checkout.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – I really love this mascara a lot. It may be my new favorite. I just like the way it looks. I can’t remember now if it was a wet or dry formula. That’s what happens when you get older man. Wait, what were talking about? Right, so you can see this on my lashes in the Flower Beauty Dusk ‘Til Dawn post.

Would I repurchase: totally!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder – I love this powder. It’s enough to reduce all of the shine from my sunscreen but it doesn’t ever look caked on or dusty and it still allows a slight glow. (I use super greasy sunscreen). And it’s something ridiculous like $3.00. Get you some.

Would I repurchase: absolutely! After I finish the other five powders in my stash. Maybe I need some sort of intervention.

Now I have absolutely no idea why I grabbed that wet n wild eyeshadow. It’s obviously not empty. Trust me about that whole forgetful absentminded aging brain business.

So do you get a weird thrill out of completely using up a product? Do you actually use up entire eyeshadows? I’ve heard tell that some people actually do but I’m not one of them.
