I’ve never counted how many tubes of lipstick I own, but it’s a number that truly qualifies as a collection, not just “a lot”. As a collector of all things makeup, I think that’s pretty rad. However, I do find that for the most part I tend to stick to the same handful of lipstick shades most of the time which leaves a whole boatload of lipstick unworn and under appreciated. Sad, sad stuff man. So this week I got a bee in my bonnet to make a point of wearing every lipstick that I own at least once (yes, there are sad lonely tubes of lipstick in my drawer that I have never worn, I have no excuse). This project will serve three main purposes:
- Actually wear the things I’ve purchased. Weird right?
- Give me an opportunity to rediscover some old loves that I haven’t worn in a while.
- Weed out my collection and toss things that are too old or uncomfortable or just plain bad products.
Now that I have rambled a bit, let’s take a look at what lipsticks I tried out this week!

Icy Violet was from 1946 and I just found the concept of owning a lipstick that could have been popular in the 40’s to be a romantic and nostalgic concept. In the tube, this looks like a very cool toned mauve/lavender with a heavy frost. I didn’t anticipate ever really wearing this BUT, when I pulled this out for this project I decided to give it a try and was really pleasantly surprised. This is almost a MLBB shade but with a little bit of a twist. It’s cooler and slightly more shimmery than a normal MLBB shade but it’s not so frosty or purple that it is unflattering. I actually really love this and I can see myself reaching for this quite often in the future.

The actual lipstick is really nice, it’s a more muted red which I find much easier to wear on a day to day basis. On me this comes across as a neutral red most of the time but swatched it definitely looks more cool. If you happen to see this shade, I would say snatch this baby up! It’s really nice.

The best part of my lipstick picks for this week, is that not a single product in the bunch was drying! I would even venture to say that some of these were slightly moisturizing (which I almost NEVER believe to be true of lipstick). If you’re prone to really dry lips, first, I totally feel your pain, but second, check out the Revlon Super Lustrous line. At the very least, they won’t leave your lips more dry than when you started.
I hope this was actually interesting. I enjoyed wearing some products that I hadn’t actually worn before. Do you have lip products that you’ve never actually worn out of the house? Hopefully I’m not the only one!
That seems like a fun project! And maybe a bit scary… I don’t think I have any truly unwearable shades, but for example Bh cosmetics Vixen can be difficult to pull off. Plum perfect is gorgeous btw!
It is fun, I highly recommend it! I do have a few shades that I’m kind of giving the side eye to though. I have a sparkly blue lip gloss that I’m really frightened of but maybe I can figure out a way to use it?
Plum Perfect IS gorgeous! And cheap!
