So you know the drill, you start out with three or four lip products in your bag and a week later they’ve magically multiplied into twenty lipsticks. Or in this case, 16. Which may as well be twenty really. It’s one of life’s great mysteries.
This is sort of like a “what’s in my bag” the lip product edition.
Generally speaking, I usually try to stock my little Lipstick Queen bag (so cute right?!) with a nude, a bright and a neutral lipstick and a few glosses. In theory, this should carry me through a week of lipstick wearing awesomeness. In reality, I always add a “cooler bright” half way through the week and since I did that, shouldn’t I grab a cooler nude too? And this spirals into a situation resulting in my purse giving me back problems. But what’s a girl to do?
Swatches of the above lip products:
Over the last two weeks these are the products that I tried to work into a makeup look:
NYX Butter Gloss in Peaches and Cream: a pretty light coral gloss that feels nice on the lips but doesn’t wear for very long.
Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Cannes Crush: a coral gloss that truly does stain and wears for a few hours before the gloss factor starts to fade.
Hard Candy Plumping Serum Lip Gloss in Swan Lake: holy long freaking name batman! This is a pretty nude gloss but I only recently purchased this and haven’t really tried it out enough to have an opinion.
Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Obsessed: I had heard that these we’re being discontinued but as of right now they are still available on the Sephora website for full price ($19.00) BUT…the Urban Decay website is selling them for $5! If you like this formula, check out their site! This is a slightly stickier formula and they have a minty scent and a vaguely tingly feeling. I like these quite a bit.
Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in Corvina: this is a highly saturated orange lipstick that almost begins to lean coral. It wears for 3-4 hours on me before it starts to feel dry but the color lasts a bit longer and fades very nicely.
MAC Coral Bliss: a cremesheen formula, a very pretty nude peach. I really love this shade and wear it often, particularly in the summer.
Milani Lip Intense Liquid Color in Red Extreme: these are the bomb diggitty. They smell like coconut, they are very pigmented, they wear for a good amount of time and they aren’t particularly drying which is amazing for a liquid lipstick. They do feather so I would recommend a lip liner of some sort. This shade is a bright true red.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Ipanema Beach: this is a pearl finish and was part of the Rio Rush collection. I’m not wild about this one. It has very little color payoff and mostly translates as shimmer when worn alone. It can be nice worn in the center of the lip in lieu of gloss but I can’t say I would recommend this particular shade.
MAC Mineralize Glass in Tender: I love this gloss. It’s less sticky than MAC’s other glosses and feels really comfortable and moisturizing on the lips. It not incredibly pigmented but I don’t love super intense lip gloss so this is a total win for me.
MAC Lipstick in Plumful: this is a lustre finish (my favorite finish) and is a lovely cool toned neutral lipstick.
Milani Brilliant Shine Gloss in Mauve Fetish: I really like these glosses but they are on the stickier side of the gloss texture spectrum. This shade goes very well with Plumful.
MAC Angel: a frost finish that doesn’t actually look frosty. It’s a tad light for me but I really like mixing this shade with other lipsticks.
Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies in #day glow: this is actually a very pretty shade. It’s an almost nude but sill bright, peach. While it’s pretty, I’m not wild about these. They feel a little slick on the lips (think oily) and yet still manage to dry my lips out.
MAC See Sheer: another lustre. This might actually be my favorite lipstick at the moment. On me it is almost a my lips but more orange (you thought I was going to say better didn’t you!) shade but on one of my good friends it’s the most perfect apricot shade so it’s one of those shades that looks a little different on everyone.
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Get Ready!: I can’t quite decide if I love this or am completely underwhelmed by it. It feels nice, it wears nice, it’s a nice color, but I’m still not in love with it. I should wear it more often so I can get a better feel for it.
Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfecter in 02: this always lives in my purse. It’s your standard sheer nude peach gloss and it feels great on the lips. If I don’t know what to wear this is generally a safe bet.
If you stuck with me for the whole post you deserve a cookie. Seriously.
