March 2017 Empties

Not to freak you out or anything, but we’re already done with the first quarter of this year. I’m starting to suspect that our timelines are being tampered with somehow.

As you probably gleaned from the title of this particular entry, we’re here to chat about garbage today. I love empties posts! I hope you do too!

Dr. Teals Epsom Salt Soaking Solution – Eucalyptus Spearmint and Milk & Honey

I use a lot of epsom salts apparently. I really like the eucalyptus scent particulary if I’m feeling a little sick. The milk and honey scent was ok but not my new favorite.

Number of times purchased: more than I can keep track of

Will I repurchase: Yep!

Lush Bath Bomb – Over and Over

I made a rather large purchase of bath bombs from Lush recently and this is the first of the batch that I used. I love the fizzy factor and the colors in Lush bath bombs but a lot of times the fragrances are just slightly off to me. Over And Over started out as a nice orangey citrus scent but quickly started to just smell like household cleaning products. It did make the bath water a really cool orange shade though! Like bathing in a tub full of Tang!

Would I repurchase: Maybe

Papas Recipe Bombee Honey Mask

This was a gift from a friend and I really like this sheet mask. It smelled nice, it felt nice, it was just really pleasant to use. It also fit my face fairly well which is always a plus.

Number of times purchased: My friend gave me two masks

Would I purchase on my own: Yes!

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

I really like this lotion! It’s very similar in consistency to the CeraVe Serum Lotion that I’ve been talking about for the last year. This is slightly less moisturizing but it’s also quite a bit less expensive per ounce than the CeraVe.

Number of times purchased: I have had multiple samples of this lotion in the past but this is the first time I’ve actually purchased it. I bought a huge jar of this once I used up this little travel size but I accidentally got the gel rather than the lotion. Bummer!

Would I repurchase: Yes!

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil – Black Velvet

march_2017_empties_urban_decay_24_7_velvet_eyeliner_black_velvet

This was alright the few times I used it but it dried out relatively quickly so I’m destashing it.

Number of times purchased: This was a gift with purchase.

Would I repurchase: No

Peter Thomas Roth CC Eye Correcting Concealer

march_2017_empties_peter_thomas_roth_CC_eye_correcting_concealer

This is actually a really nice concealer! It’s more opaque than I generally prefer in a concealer but it still worked really well for me. It also has broad spectrum mineral sunscreen which was really nice. The other side of the dual ended wand is a highlighter that was very “meh”. I think this has actually been discontinued because I can only find it on ebay and Amazon now. And Walmart apparently carried it at one point? How weird is that!

Jurlique Activating Water Essence

I think I got this as a point perk from Sephora. The first few days that I used this I actually really liked it! But ultimately I think it was irritating my skin a bit so I’m just tossing it out. Ain’t nobody got time for that! It smells a bit like lavender which was pleasant but probably why it wasn’t working for me.

Number of times purchased: Single time sample/gift with purchase

Would I repurchase: No

Equate Mild Liquid Facial Soap

I’m so torn on this one. I actually think that this was functionally a very good soap. It isn’t a makeup remover, but it cleansed without stripping my skin. My issue with this is that it smells like plastic. And if you get any in your mouth (does this happen to you??) it tastes really horrible.

Avon Always On Point Eyeliner – Black

img_7808

This was a gift from my daughter-in-law and I really like this eyeliner! It isn’t the blackest of black eyeliners but it stayed reasonably well in my waterline for about an hour. More importantly, when it decided it was finished with the waterline life, it just kind of melded gracefully into my lash line instead of smearing or running or doing other weird things.

Number of times “purchased”: This was gifted to me one time!

Would I repurchase: Yes!

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon – Ody(Sea)

Another product that I’m split on! The highliner gel crayons really really really stay put in my waterline. I love them! However, they can make my eyes a little bit dry so I don’t use them every day. The flip side to lasting a long time is that this liner dried out a little faster than a more emollient liner might. I bought this in April of 2016 so it lasted just under a year (it has a 12 month shelf life according to the label). I can still use this as a traditional liner but it skips a bit now so it’s difficult to apply. Once it started drying out, it was out of the question to use it in the waterline because it began flaking and pieces of liner ended up in my eye. Not so fun.

Number of times purchased: I’ve had two of these liners in different colors.

Would I repurchase: Maybe

Haus of Gloi Pumpkin Butter – Vice

This actually marks the end of the giant batch of pumpkin butters that I purchased last Summer! Vice is in the permanent line up of the HoG scent catalogue. It is a strong chocolate covered espresso bean scent. I like it but it is pretty intense.

Number of times purchased: We’re going to go with 13 although this is the first time I’ve purchased this scent.

Would I repurchase: I’m a huge fan of the pumpkin butters in general but I would maybe consider this scent again.

Missha Time Revolution – The First Treatment Essence Intensive

march_2017_empties_missha_time_revolution_the_first_treatment_essence_intensive

This is a fermented yeast toner/lotion that is really similar to the SKII essence but a fraction of the price. Where SKII is around $200 for a bottle of a similar size, the Missha Essence is between $20-$30 depending on if you catch a sale (not hard to do!). I like this toner quite a bit. It just adds a bit of an extra layer of moisture to my skin. While the essence/lotion step in my skin care routine is the first step to go if I’m in a rush, it’s my favorite step. Even if it doesn’t add a whole lot to my skin’s overall condition, it’s just enjoyable.

Number of times purchased: 1

Would I repurchase: Yes but I’m trying something else at the moment.

That actually wraps up this month’s empties! I really needed to get this posted so I could throw all of these products out and use my little bin for the new batch of empties I’m accumulating. Next month might be out of control.

Tidbits:

  • Alright, I’ve been absolute shite about keeping on track with any type of exercise and my diet has been really really bad lately. If you’re on MyFitnessPal or use FitBit, hit me up and we can be accountability buddies! I need to get back on track!
  • For book club we’re reading The Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick. It’s a historical fiction based on actual people and events. It’s a little bit smutty, a little bit bad ass and a little bit really interesting historical bits. I’m digging it! Have you read anything by Chadwick? Most of her other books look to have been written quite a while ago and from the covers look to be of the bodice ripper variety. Not that I”m opposed but it’s not what I’m currently into.
  • I went on a fountain pen and ink shopping spree recently! I have a couple of cool little goodies to play with now! If you’re into fountain pens, what ones do you have? Favorite ink recommendations? Let’s nerd out in the comments!

  1. I totally skipped this post somehow. 😳
What do you use Epsom salts for? Feet or a full bath? I’ve got a container of Epsom salt that I’ve had for years – never know what to use them for.
Yeah, Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + is my jam. It’s old school, basic and probably overpriced for what it is. But my skin likes it. I’ve not tried the gel but I like the lotion so I’ll stick to that.
I’ve noticed my Marc Jacobs Highliner is drying out too. The lead actually falls out of the casing now. I still use it because I do really like the formula.
I’ve not heard about the Missha Essence – I shall have to add that to my to try list! I’m so fickle about toners too… even if I don’t HATE it, I’ll try something new.
I had no idea you were a fountain pen enthusiast! I”m not but I think it’s neat. 🙂

    1. I actually use epsom salts as a full on bath. The word on the street is that they help soothe sore/tense muscles. I have no idea how that is supposed to actually happen but there you have it. I’ve used them as a foot soak before too though 🙂
I am finding that I kind of like some of the old school basic lotions. They allow me to add my actual treatments to my routine in quantities and frequencies that work for my skin.
I’m seriously so bummed that they Marc Jacobs eyeliners dry out. The formula is so dang nice while they’re still usable!
Definitely check out the Missha Essence! I have a good friend that didn’t like it at all as a toner but she put it in a spray bottle and uses it as a face spray and really loves it that way.
Fountain pens just make me feel so fancy! lol 🙂
