I have accumulated a few cool things over the last few months but I haven’t been been wearing makeup often enough to give comprehensive reviews on most of these items, however, I still wanted to talk about them. Thus, a cumulative haul instead of any solid reviews yet. Who doesn’t like showing off their new toys right?
I tried a sample of Victor & Rolf’s Spicebomb recently and immediately fell in love. To me, this opens very spicy, maybe cloves, saffron and a peppery note with a hint of citrus. After about 15 minutes that all settles down a little and I notice a warm cedar scent. This fragrance smells warm and comforting and makes me want to curl up with a soft blanket and a book. It’s delicious and I haven’t stopped wearing it for the last couple of weeks.
L’oreal Color Riche Eyeshadow in Treasured Bronze– I have been eyeballing this eyeshadow for a while but this line didn’t get good reviews so I was hesitant about purchasing it. I haven’t worn this yet but it swatches beautifully.
Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Eye Pencil in Black Velvet– this came in a sample bag from Sephora which was kind of exciting because I’ve been curious about this. I used this to tight line but that isn’t a spectacular test of the product. What I can say is that it swatches smoothly and the matte finish seems promising. Super helpful right? I thought so.
Urban Decay Sephora Point Perk Palette– I do love when Sephora actually offers makeup as a point perk so I scooped up this palette. The packaging is actually really nice and the pan size is generous but the actual shade selection is a little blah. The quality is ok but there’s nothing here to actually entice me to reach for this palette. Bummer right?
Loreal Infallible Silkissme eyeliner in the Highlighter shade – this is really pretty! It works in the inner corner but I’ve also been using it over my Cupid’s bow. It would also look pretty as a normal liner or all over the lid. Multi-tasking goodness right?
Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Snapdragon – this is a relatively new addition to Revlon’s line and as far as I can tell, it’s a relatively longish wearing lipstick with a lightweight/slippery feel to it. I’ve worn it once and it doesn’t seem particularly hydrating nor drying so far. It does have a piña colada scent to it which I don’t find unpleasant. The major gripe I have with this is the packaging. I think it looks flimsy and cheap and the product always remains a bit higher than the tube making it very easy to break or dent when removing the cap. I think if we’re paying $7 for a drugstore lipstick, Revlon really could have done better.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose Velvet– I’m going to make a big statement here, but this lipstick line is my absolute favorite. It has a wide range of shades, wears well, is moisturizing, doesn’t bleed and just plain rocks. This shade is a beautiful neutral and I highly recommend it.
Revlon Ultra HD Lip lacquer in Amber and Petalite– these feel very similar to the Colorburst glosses and also have the same vaguely chemical scent. The only difference I’ve noticed so far is that they do seem to wear a bit longer (around 2 hours for me which is really good for a gloss). Initially I wasn’t thrilled with the brush applicator but I think it applies more product than a doe foot and so far, the brush hasn’t split on me. I’ll report back after actually wearing them a bit more.
Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks in Divine Wine and a Touch of Spice– I haven’t worn either of these beyond initially trying them on so the only thing I can say is that they feel pretty nice upon application but might be prone to a patchy application. I’m not completely sold on these being flattering colors on me but they are undoubtedly pretty shades on their own. They have the normal Maybelline lipstick smell (a little like play dough) but it doesn’t seem as intense as say the Vivids line.
YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Prune in Fire (18)– this is a huge splurge for me. At $30 something plus with all of the rave reviews that this product gets I was expecting A LOT from this lippie. The shade is stunning, I have no complaints there. The packaging is also stunning (obviously) in a bit of a garish way. It feels beautiful and smooth on the lips and definitely isn’t drying BUT…I get 30 minutes of wear tops. That’s a little sad since there isn’t a ton of product supplied in the first place. I seriously doubt I would ever re-purchase anything from this line but I do love using this for the time being. Also, this smells like the adult beverage called A Red Headed Slut which is awesome. 🙂
Wet n Wild Fergie lipstick in Ferguson Crest Cabernet– this shade isn’t dissimilar to the YSL shade above. Not a twin but maybe a cousin? I haven’t worn this yet but it feels nice on application, doesn’t have a noticeable scent and it leaves a serious stain (on the lips AND anything else) that lasts for hours. That might be a plus? I haven’t decided yet.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipstick in Gothica– Bronze. Glitter. How cool is that right?! Pretty damn cool. The best part is that the glitter isn’t a noticeable texture on my lips. Gothica basically feels like a lipstick that isn’t incredibly smooth, but it definitely doesn’t feel like glitter particles either. Technically this does apply a bit patchy but because it’s such a glitter bomb, it kind of works and isn’t a noticeable flaw. The base lipstick is matte and thus, this wears pretty well. After 3-4 hours most of the lipstick is gone but the glitter remains and everything still looks pretty good. After about 4 hours, there is a bit of a glitter ring around the edges of my lips but re-application of this lipstick is pretty effortless and trouble free. Gothica is slightly drying, but nothing unbearable. Plus it smells like vanilla which is a plus in my book.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette – I normally stay far far away from liquid lipstick because it either ends up all over my face OR it dries my lips out like wee little raisins and I’m never sure which of those two delightful options is worse. That being said, this stuff is amazing. Seriously, I’ve only worn it once but I was incredibly impressed. It applies smoothly, dries down to a matte finish in about a minute, wore for 4 hours with no fading, transfer, drying or flaking and that was through two cups of coffee and it never felt like dried product on my lips but maintained a faint silicone texture. I had a hamburger for lunch that day and did notice that the grease from the burger (mmm…hamburgers…) did break it down enough to transfer onto the bun but removing the product from my lips was as easy as just wiping it off with a napkin. I’m pretty sure this is black magic. This came in the Sephora sample set and while I would not have picked this shade on my own, it’s really beautiful. I can’t wait to try this out a few more times to see if I still feel as impressed as I do after the initial test.
Kudos to you if you stuck through this whole post! Do you have any if these products? If so, what did you think of them, I’d love to know your thoughts. I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!
The Kat Von D lipstick is so stunning! I’ve never seen anything like it- it’s landed on my must have list.
Right?! At first I was a little worried that glitter lipstick might not be…work appropriate but I got over it 🙂 I love it, it’s really beautiful. If you get it, you have to let me know what you think!
Definitely will do 🙂
Are you still enjoying the Kat Von D liquid lipstick?
Ive actually only worn it the one time. I need to try it out again because it was a great product the one time i used it.
