This last week was a bit of an odd makeup week for me. I found an eye look that I really loved and I found a lip color that worked with it and I stuck with the combo for three days! That is a true rarity for me but it was kind of fun.
Lipstick swatches are done with a single swipe of product on the left and then built up to full opacity on the right.
L’Oreal Color Riche leGloss in Princess Lolly (limited edition) + Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Flamingo Pose (discontinued?!)

I tell you what, it seems like everything I own has been discontinued! I purchased Flamingo Pose within the last 6 months and now I can’t seem to find it online anywhere. This is why I panic and hoard things! Flamingo Pose is actually very pigmented (as are all of the shades that I own in this line of lipstick) but I prefer wearing it blended out or dabbed over something. It’s a little out of my comfort zone otherwise. All of the regular lipstick in this range smell like synthetic watermelon candy.
I really enjoy the leGloss glosses. They feel so comfortable and are very lightweight. The downside is that they only last around 20-30 minutes on the lips. For the most part I don’t mind re-applying because they smell delicious when you first apply them. Like marshmallows and caramel. Princess Lolly was a limited edition shade but there are multiple shades available in the permanent line.
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob with MAC Twig

Rimmel East End Snob: The Exaggerate Lip Liners are possibly my favorite line of…liners…oy. They are creamy so they don’t tug during application and they don’t dry my lips out. There is a decent range of shades and they’re just generally quite nice. They help lipstick to last a tad longer but they are not the most long wearing lip liners in the world. They’re best used for adding definition, stopping feathering or using as an actual lip color.
MAC Twig: This lipstick is totally my jam. It’s a Satin finish (so somewhere between a traditional cream finish and a matte finish if you aren’t familiar with MAC’s finishes) so it’s long wearing (I get around 3-4 hours of perfect wear) but it can feel a little dry. It isn’t drying just a dryer texture. MAC lipstick all smells like vanilla.
MAC Retro

I found MAC Retro because I really wanted Kat Von D Lolita in the Studded Kiss format but it is perpetually sold out. I happened to have the swatch from Sephora on my hand so I ran over to the MAC counter to see if I could find a dupe. The MAC girl was super helpful and we discovered that Retro is damn close to Lolita. I can’t vouch for it being an exact dupe but as far as hand swatches go, it’s really similar.
Retro is another Satin finish and it wears 3-4 hours perfectly. It’s a dryer texture but it isn’t drying. I dig it yo!
Wet n’ Wild MegaLast Lipstick in Spiked With Rum

MegaLast Lipstick is fairly similar to the MAC Satin finish although it doesn’t feel as dry and is a bit thicker feeling. I think this line is incredibly comfortable and they wear really well (3-4 hours). They don’t have a scent.
Spiked with Rum is part of the permanent line but I don’t always see it in every display so you may have to hunt for it a bit. It’s a gorgeous color and I’ll have swatch comparisons to MAC Retro at the end of this post.
Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti with Fyrinnae Liquid Matte in Electromagnetic

Revlon Tutti Frutti: I still love the Revlon Lip Butters. You don’t hear as much about them as you used to but they’re still great little lip products. They only wear for 30 minutes to an hour but they have decent pigmentation without being fully opaque. Tutti Frutti is a great true orange shade that looks just as good with a sheer application as it does with a full on application. If you’re scared of full on orange lipstick but you don’t want to be, Tutti Frutti is a good place to start. The Lip Butters have an almost undetectable scent. It might be vanilla? It’s a sweet smell and you have to really make a point of smelling your lipstick in order to notice it.
Fyrinnae Electromagnetic: This is a pretty cool product actually! I’m planning on doing a full review of it in the near future but to sum up, it’s a matte liquid lipstick that is supposed to change colors from a teal/green to a red. I don’t get so much of the red but you can see it in that second swatch at an extreme angle. It works great for cooling down warm lip shades (as you can see) and it adds a bit of wear time to some creamier lip products by mattefying them a bit. I dig it!
Side by Side Swatches of this weeks lip colors:

And a very close dupe:

To sum up the captions: Retro is slightly darker than Spiked with Rum but it’s a subtle difference. Spiked with Rum is creamier feeling and less dry than Retro. The finish is visually very similar between the two. So not an exact dupe but super super close. I would say you definitely don’t need both colors.
What lipstick did you wear this week? Did you discover any new favorites? Did you wear the same shade all week or do you change it up day to day?
Tidbits:
- Last night we had a going away party for my landlord. It was super sad and I’m really bummed that he’s leaving! It was a great party though.
- I discovered a beer called Wilhelm Scream yesterday. How freaking cool is that? It’s a pumpkin ale too. Win win!
- I found the most amazingly beautiful dead bug this week.
- Season 4 of Once Upon A Time is on Netflix!
I do love your WATL project… it’s such a great idea. I might have to steal it someday. ;P
Love that Fyrinnae Electromagnetic, and the Milani shade! Excellent dupe spot, man. I also heard that Spiked with Rum is a perfect dupe for Del Rio! Hence why I was planning on getting Spiked. =o I’ve been squinting, and I honestly can’t tell any difference in that lip photo. Wild!
That’s a common green bottle fly!! I love em, we have them all over. Aren’t they gorgeous? =D Great photo… poor lil thing!
You should definitely steal it! It’s really fun to do actually 🙂
I’m really surprised at how versatile and wearable Electromagnetic is turning out to be.
I actually feel like Spiked with Rum is a bit more comfortable so I feel pretty confident in telling you that you NEED Spiked 😉
Bugs are so surprisingly beautiful sometimes. It’s easy to forget occasionally. A colony of the tiniest Little Black Ants found him so his death was at least part of keeping the food chain chain going. Still, poor little fella!
Ohh, I love the “darker”/bolder lipsticks on you! They look great with your eye colour and really make ’em pop! 🙂
Thank you so much! 😀
Three days in a row of the same makeup?! You need to turn in your makeup blogger membership card! 😮
MAC Twig looks fabulous on you! I find it a bit deep for me personally but I now use Cosmo as MLBB and it works well – it’s a bit brighter than Twig.
Thanks for finding a close dupe of the Wet n Wild Spiked with Rum with a MAC shade because I’m not a fan of lipsticks made in China.
Revlon Tutti Frutti + Fyrinnae Electromagnetic = friggin awesome! Wow, it makes the orangey summery shade into such a nice Autumn colour – well done. You should try that Marvelous Moxie Hyponist lipgloss over the Fyrinnae Electromagnetic to see how that looks too!
You should do an eye makeup look based on that dead bug… 😉
I rediscovered Clinique Black Honey last week – wore it at a wedding and it was amazing!
Ha!
Cosmo looks really pretty, that’s the kind of shade I always want to wear but can’t quite pull off. Skin tone is a funny thing isn’t it?
Is there a particular reason you don’t wear lipstick that’s made in China? Is it just lipstick or is it all cosmetics? I’m intrigued! 🙂
Thank you! I thought that combo turned out better than expected. I will DEFINITELY try Electromagnetic with Hypnotist! Now I’m excited to see how that looks.
Dude! Yes! You’re a genius! 🙂
Oooh I forgot about black honey! I need to pull that back out again because it’s lovely. It’s one of those magical shades that looks great but entirely different on everyone.
